Over many years of clinical work and yoga training, I have seen how movement patterns — or the lack of them — can affect our stability, strength and overall sense of ease in our bodies. Chronic pain, hypermobile joints, old injuries, surgical scar tissue, repetitive habits and simply the way we move through our everyday lives can all influence how our body organizes movement. Our bodies are incredibly adaptable, and are constantly looking for ways to compensate when something feels weak, restricted, unstable or uncoordinated. These compensations can become our “normal” way of moving, even when they may no longer be serving us well.
Regardless of your current level of strength, flexibility or yoga experience my goal is to create a movement class where you feel comfortable, capable and confident. You don't need to be able to touch your toes, balance perfectly or know what every pose is supposed to look like. Instead, let's explore movement with curiosity, and learn to recognize what your body can teach you. Through yoga, functional movement exercises and a better understanding of your own anatomy and movement patterns, we can begin to build strength, improve balance and develop greater body awareness.
This work is not about forcing your body into a particular shape. It’s about learning how to move with more intention and giving your body and nervous system opportunities to discover new, more supported ways of moving. My hope is that you leave class not just feeling good, but with a better understanding of your own mechanics and what you can do to support your body for the long term — on your yoga mat and in everyday life.
Whether you are new to yoga, returning after an injury, working around an old limitation, or simply wanting to feel stronger and more stable in your body, you are welcome here. There is no perfect body for yoga — just your body — exactly where it is today — and we can give ourselves the opportunity to move a little better tomorrow.
