Nicolette was originally trained for Polarity therapy (PT) through the teachings of Dr. Stone, MD, DC, DO (Doctor of Osteopathy).
As a colleague of Dr. Upledger, they differed in their approach. Upledger focusing primarily on cranial sacral therapy and Stone focusing on Ayurvedic and other eastern models integrated within the manual osteopathic techniques including cranial sacral / visceral.
Nicolette further studied cranial and visceral techniques during the completion of her National Academy of Osteopathy program.
Cranial sacral therapy works primarily on the muscles and joints of the skull, spine and sacrum and the cerebral spinal fluid within.
Areas of tension along this path can lead to the fluid not flowing properly and thereby causing tensions in the central nervous system. The fluid is necessary for proper conduction of the nerve supply to all parts of the body.
Visceral massage targets the fascia and connective tissue of the internal organs of the abdomen. Scar tissue and muscle tension around the organs can contribute to chronic pain or referred pain to different parts of the body.
Both treatments have a very gentle hands on pressure that can be done directly on the skin or over the clothes. It has been said to be one of the most relaxing treatments as the pressure is very light and slow.
The cranial visceral treatment is done within a massage session and billed under massage therapy.
